Heritage Prime Network Sunsets in 2027

In August 2024, Premera Blue Cross announced it will close the Heritage Prime network to commercial groups starting January 1, 2027. Groups currently on plans using the Heritage Prime network will need to shift to the Heritage PPO network no later January 1, 2026.

Why this is happening

Rising labor and supply costs and increasing administrative requirements have left providers unwilling to take a lower rate for the narrower network. To offset the lower rate for Heritage Prime, these same provider systems are asking for higher rates on the Heritage PPO network. This would lead to higher premiums and a narrower network.

What happens next

By refocusing our efforts, we can work to make other products and networks more cost efficient and effective. Premera will continue to work with providers to build strong relationships to improve our networks and keep costs fair for our providers, employer groups, and our members.
