A Pipeline to Increase Pediatric Specialists in Eastern WA

The groundbreaking pediatric residency program at the Washington State University Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine just celebrated Match Day in a big way. Out of over 500 hopeful applicants, a select group has been chosen to pioneer this program, bringing a mix of leadership, academic brilliance, and a heartfelt dedication to pediatrics into the Spokane medical scene. This summer, we’re welcoming six new faces, including three who studied right here in Washington state.

This milestone wouldn’t be possible without the incredible partnership between WSU, Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center & Children’s Hospital, and Premera Blue Cross. It’s a historic move for us, marking the first pediatric residency program on the east side of the Cascades. We’re not just helping train doctors, we’re building a future where every child in eastern Washington has access to top-notch healthcare, right in their backyard.

A huge round of applause for our first class of pediatric residents – your commitment to serving the Spokane community is truly inspiring. Welcome aboard!
