More Ways to Grow HSA Savings in 2026

Coming in May 2026, Premera is expanding Health Savings Account (HSA) investment choices. Two additional options will be offered by Optum Financial:

Betterment (digitally managed ETFs) and Charles Schwab HSBA (self-directed brokerage).

These enhancements come at no cost to employers and provide members with greater flexibility and personalized investment paths.

What investment options are available? 

  • New! Betterment: Automated, goal-based portfolios using ETFs; ideal for novice or hands-off investors. Includes auto-rebalancing and personalized plans.
  • New! Charles Schwab HSBA: Self-directed brokerage with access to thousands of stocks, bonds, mutual funds, and ETFs; ideal for experienced investors wanting control.
  • Traditional Mutual Funds: The existing Devenir-managed fund lineup remains available.

Fees (Member-Elected Only): 

Betterment – 0.50% annually, accrued daily and charged monthly.

Schwab HSBA – No monthly maintenance fee; most online trades are free; broker-assisted trades may have transaction fees.

Traditional mutual funds – No monthly or annual fees.

Enrollment & Access: 

Members will have access to these new options within the Investments section of their portal or mobile app.
